Girls reserve the right to choose
Women are more 'choosy' when it comes to seeking a partner than men are, new research suggests.
Researchers from Indiana University examined the behaviour of 46 people taking part in a speed-dating session.
They found that men tended to base their initial choices primarily on the physical attractiveness of women, while women tended to opt for men who would provide them with financial security.
Study leader Peter Todd said that most people still behave like early man when it comes to choosing the best mate.
Dr Glenn Wilson, a relationships expert at the Institute of Psychiatry in London, told the BBC: "It is well known that men select women for fairly superficial reasons, whereas women think much more about the long-term and the qualities and resources needed to bring up children.
"Men will often find themselves falling into relationships by default."
