Dating expert advises against lies
Telling lies about yourself is probably not the best idea when dating online, an expert has warned.
Responding to a letter from a confused dater on website myrtlebeachonline.com, Dr Joyce Brothers advised that lying could make the other person "disappointed or even angry" if you ever get to the stage where you decide to meet up.
The author of the letter had admitted to telling "the standard pack of lies", including age, weight, name, education "and other facts you don't want to tell a stranger".
While Dr Brothers accepted that it was wise not to reveal real names, phone numbers and addresses, she said: "Be prepared for him to be disappointed or even angry - especially if he didn't do the same thing and give you a 'pack of lies' too!"
She recommended that the dater should tell the truth about herself straight away "so you can meet on an even playing field".
