Online dating set to attract new singles
Online dating sites are likely to receive an influx of new singletons over the coming weeks, as the period between Christmas and Valentine's Day is the time when many people choose to end existing relationships.
Research by Yahoo! Personals reveals that many people make it one of their new year's resolutions to find a new dating partner and two in five claim that they are 'very likely to' or will 'definitely' go online to check out the available talent before splitting up with their boyfriend or girlfriend.
"People tend to 'put up' with current relationships in order to have a partner for holiday gatherings, but once the festivities are over it's time to decide whether to fish or cut bait," revealed general manager Anna Zornosa.
And after the official break-up, even more people are likely to head to dating sites, as 72 per cent of respondents said that they would go online to search for new partners to cheer themselves up.
