Guys and girls want equality in relationships
Daters are mostly looking for someone who will be an equal, according to a new survey.
Rather than hoping they can strive to be the dominant half of the couple, 86 per cent of the respondents in an online dating survey said they would rather have equality than wear the trousers when it came to dating.
For 40 per cent of women, the amount a man earns is not important, while the earning capacity of their partner is far less important for men, with 60 per cent saying it was not an issue.
A commonly held view is that men are looking for a trophy girlfriend ? someone who's nice to look at but doesn't have a lot going on up there. However, the match.com survey revealed that 71 per cent of men are looking for a girl who is just as intelligent as them.
Dr Ian Kerner, a relationship expert, said: "Today's women are more educated and more successful than ever before and are looking for a man who shares their financial and career goals.
"This also means men are being relieved of the traditional pressures of taking the reins in the relationship, and what you're left with is a relationship built in equality, which is ultimately a lot less stressful for both genders."
