British girls aren't gold-diggers who are looking for a Sugar Daddy with a big bank balance, according to a new survey.

Apparently, we're more interested in a guy's personality and looks than how much money he earns.

This is totally opposite to the Material Girl attitude that Madonna put forward in her hit single, as a survey by first direct released this week shows that 93 per cent of British women wouldn't choose not to go on a date with a guy just because he's not a high flying businessman.

"A healthy bank balance isn't enough to win the heart of today's financially independent woman," said Jane Hanson, head of human resources at first direct.

"Attraction appears to be a more important factor than wealth when choosing a partner. Today's couples are marrying later after years of managing their own money and they're not handing over this financial independence at the altar."

However, while the vast majority of girls look to a guy's personality to decide whether he's Mr Right, three per cent of the women in the survey said they would break up with someone they were dating if he didn't earn enough. Shame on you.
