Barry White vs James Blunt
When you're considering dating a guy, would you rather have the manly tones of a deep-voiced Adonis or a guy whose squeak resembled your littler sister's?
It might seem like a not-so-difficult conundrum, but according to scientists, it depends what the time of the month is.
Barry White might be the preferred choice for women during the most fertile time of the month, but feminine-voiced James Blunt might be the preference at other times, according to research by St Andrews University.
It has been traditionally thought that the Walrus of Love's manly tones would make him more attractive because it implies dominance, masculinity and strength.
However, women might like a higher voice because it seems more caring and might seem more likely to lead to a long-term relationship.
Dr David Feinberg, researcher at St Andrews, told the BBC: "We already know male vocal attractiveness is highly related to masculinity and men with attractive voices have more mating success than men with unattractive voices.
But he added: "Women's preferences for masculine voices change over the menstrual cycle: women prefer masculine voices more when fertile."
