Girls like funny guys, while men go for fit girls, according to an international survey.

Men and women on six continents were asked what attracted them to the opposite sex and also quizzed about their dating habits.

In order to impress the girls, British and Australian men resort to competitive drinking to show off their alcohol consumption skills, which they think will make the girls swoon in adoration.

Guys in Germany and Italy said they lied about how much money they had in an attempt to win a girl's heart.

But it seems that a sense of humour is the only thing on a girl's mind as the poll found that ladies love a lad who can make them laugh.

For the guys, however, beauty is more important than brains or a funny bone as looks are at the top of their agenda.

However, a sense of humour topped the list for both men and women in the US and Canada, coming out top for 63 per cent and 73 per cent of them respectively.
