This is the finding of a study at the University of St Andrews in Scotland, in which people's faces were morphed into that of someone of the opposite sex, without their knowledge.

They were then asked to pick the most attractive out of a line-up of faces. The study found that most people picked their own, the BBC writes.

David Perrett headed up the study and said that people chose their own faces because they reminded them of their parents.

Apparently, girls are attracted to a guy they can chat with who reminds them of their dad, while guys prefer mother-like figures.

When those in the study saw their own faces, it triggered an attraction because family resemblances mean it reminded them of faces they saw when they were growing up.
