It seems that girls love a guy who's in control, according to scientific research into the art of chatting up. The best chat-up line a guy can use to grab a girl's attention was: "It's hot today isn't it? It's the best weather when you're training for a marathon."

This chat-up line can help a guy show off his athletic ability as well as his intelligence, which apparently makes him more likely to attract girls, researchers from Edinburgh and Central Lancashire universities found.

But the study was bad news for guys who like the cheesy approach, using lines like: "Did it hurt when you fell out of heaven?" or "So there you are! I've been looking all over for you, the girl of my dreams!"

These one-liners were found to be more rotten tomato than fruit of love.
