Deciding what to wear on a first date is one of the age-old problems known to womankind.

Does what you wear really make a difference to a guy? Is he bothered whether you go for that little black dress or whether you try the subtle and understated jeans approach?

It seems that guys do notice and the jeans are winning, with 58 per cent of guys responding to a survey by Cosmopolitan magazine saying they fancied girls wearing a top and jeans.

But some men do prefer the full-on glamorous effect. The survey found that 22 per cent of guys would prefer you to wear a dazzling dressy number while you chat with him on your date.

The office look was a favourite with 18 per cent of the guys in the survey, while unsurprisingly, just two per cent said they liked a woman in a tracky. Watch out Sporty Spice.
