Breaking up over baby talk and barking
Opposites attract, and when people chat online they are often attracted to exactly the characteristics in another person that makes them so different.
However, when the online chat relationship becomes a real-life one, differences could easily mean the end of the fuzzy feelings.
Dating experts warn that people should know which things they definitely wouldn't put up with in a relationship, and steer clear from people with those attribute.
For example, people with serious moral objections to meat eating should make it clear if they do not want to chat to or date non-vegetarians.
But sometimes these things are not evident when first chatting to a person and weird fetishes or irritating habits only manifest themselves later.
"We call them dealbreakers," Oscar winner Gwyneth Paltrow explains.
She says it happens where you're dating someone and they turn on a terrible song, or something, and you think, "Oh right, that's over!"
Gwyn, who is now the wife of Coldplay singer Chris Martin and mum to their daughter Apple, had a weird dealbreaker episode with a former flame.
"Once someone spoke to me in a baby voice and then barked like a dog and it was sort of very weird... I think that's unacceptable," she told Contactmusic.
"I think baby talk is unacceptable to your own baby... I talk to Apple like a person."
She said the experience was "a few kinds of wrong".
So whether it is baby talk or barking, Celine Dion or Creedence Clearwater Revival be clear about what your dealbreakers are and don't put up with something that makes you cringe.
