Make that call to get that date
If you thought that meeting guys was hard in the 21st century, imagine for a second that there are no online chat sites, and no mobile phone text messages. Imagine a world of "making the first call" every time you meet a guy. Most of us find this idea kind of scary, but not too long ago, it was the only form of non face-to-face communication with a potential date.
Communicating solely through short messaging services (SMS) such as online chatting and texting is a safe option-you always have time to think before you answer so embarrassment is kept to a minimum, and during breaks in conversation you can watch Eastenders or make a cup of tea, rather than struggle to fill the awkward silence.
But the good old-fashioned phone call does have its benefits. How many of us have read a text message from a guy and taken it the wrong way? More to the point, how many of us have read one our own messages back after hitting send and realising that the spelling and grammar is similar to that of a four year old?
When speaking to somebody you are less likely to misunderstand one another, as the tone and inflection of your voice play their own part in getting your message across-so you both know when the other is joking for example. This obviously gets your personality across too, and typos just can't happen!
In addition, hearing someone's voice can make it easier to organise meeting up with them. Online chatting and texting creates a feeling of familiarity with the people we meet, it is one of things that make it so great. But it can make you feel more confident about meeting up with someone if you have spoken to them on the phone, more prepared for seeing them in the flesh.
Modern technology is fantastic, and it has never been easier to meet new friends and dates, but don't underestimate the power of your voice to boost your confidence, and make him fall for you!
