The two most important things that make someone attractive are cleanliness and self-confidence, research by Andrex found.

Cleanliness and confidence beat qualities like having a good job or being generous. More than half of the people who were polled said they would rather date someone who is rude and stingy than someone that smelt bad.

Some 53 per cent of people said that no matter how good looking, rich or nice their date was, if the date had a body odour problem there wouldn't be a kiss at the end of the night. Or ever for that matter.

However, maybe it's not a good idea to completely ditch the sit-ups, makeup and cute outfits. Because when you feel gorgeous, chances are that you will feel more confident.

And as Jessica Alba says: "My theory is that if you look confident you can pull off anything - even if you have no clue what you're doing."
